If you’re into mountain biking, you probably watch in admiration as your favourite riders travel the world and ride in the most exotic locations possible. Well, don’t think that this dream is restricted to the most talented riders in the world. Here are five of the best places to mountain bike for all riders!
Whistler, British Columbia (Canada)
Firstly, it’s impossible to ignore what many people consider to be the best location in the world for outdoor sports. You’ve probably heard about skiing and snowboarding during the colder months, but fewer people are aware of the summer opportunities for mountain bikers. As you ride around this magnificent location, make sure you take stops to soak up the stunning views.
What opportunities will you have at Whistler? For one thing, it has over 70 unique bike park tracks to follow. With this in mind, there’s something for all experience levels and ages. So air up your tires, slip into your Sendy Gear, and prepare to descend down one of the most beautiful trails in the world.
Vermont (United States)
You might be thinking, ‘well, where in Vermont?’, but the answer to this question is almost irrelevant. The whole state is a haven for mountain bikers and others who want to spend time breathing in the New England air. Across the whole region, people consume local products and appreciate the nature that surrounds them. Also, they welcome mountain bikers who want to do the same.
Just like Whistler, Vermont is a great place for skiing and snowboarding in winter, and this makes it an ideal location for mountain bikers in summer. If you can choose a time of year, go for autumn where each leaf is a different shade, and you’ll create memories to last a lifetime.
Moving away from North America, you might need to put up with a bit more rain in Scotland, but it’s worth it when you’re in Achnashellach. Located in the Highlands, this is a rugged stretch of land that will look more and more dramatic as your trip goes on. What’s more, the landscape is challenging for even the most experienced riders. Although perhaps not suited to newer riders, the natural rocks and technical trails will provide a challenge for those who think they’ve mastered the art.
Pachacamac is the chosen area of Peru in this guide, but it’s worth noting that the whole country has potential for mountain biking. When travelling to Peru, you’re guaranteed a few things:
- Picturesque views (and amazing pictures for the photo album)
- Fantastic routes and trails
- Lots of local riders to join
In Pachacamac, in particular, this is a quarry with many different downhill trails to sink your teeth into. Along the way, you’ll also find evidence of ancient civilisations. If possible, check out the Andes for more memorable experiences.
The Norway Fjords
Finally, if you really want to get the heart pumping, head to the Fjords of Norway. Like others on this list, it manages to find the balance between elegant views and daring downhill rides. Once the winter has faded and the snow is a distant memory, climb to some amazing spots using the ski lifts. Even if it causes some difficulty reaching the good spots, you’ll soon forget the worry (and all of life’s stresses) when standing up high, a mountain bike next to you, and a huge smile on your face.
