Importance of Class 11 Chemistry NCERT Solutions

The class 11 Science syllabus is vastly different from what is taught to students up to the 10th grade. In chapter 2 of Chemistry itself, the concept of the duality of nature is introduced which leaves students absolutely baffled and underprepared. Unless students are equipped with the right resources that will aid them in their preparation, class 11 can seem overwhelming and exhausting. The syllabus is huge and is impossible to cover unless you have a fool-proof study plan and the help of the right teachers, mentors, and seniors to guide you.

At the end of each chapter in the class 11 CBSE NCERT Chemistry textbook, you will see that some exercises are given. These exercises contain questions that are important and are commonly asked in examinations. Since class 11 Chemistry is important for your school and several other national competitive exams, your basics in the subject need to be crystal clear. This is where Class 11 Chemistry NCERT Solutions come to the rescue. Using these solutions, you can ace all your exams and get an edge over all your fellow classmates. However, you have to diligently solve each and every question provided in the exercise in order to do so and make revision a regular part of your study routine.

Class 11 Chemistry Syllabus

In order to be able to solve questions, you first need to know the syllabus of the subject. This is why we will discuss the Class 11 Chemistry syllabus in-depth here before moving onto the importance of following NCERT solutions.

Unit I: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

A general introduction is given regarding the importance and scope of chemistry in everyday life. The laws of chemical combinations are explained along with Dalton’s atomic theory. Mathematical problems on atomic and molecular masses, percentage compositions, and stoichiometry are also provided.

Unit II: Structure of Atom

Students are taught about the various models that were hypothesised to explain the structure of an atom. These include Thompson’s model, Rutherford’s model, Bohr’s model, the Heisenberg principle, and so on.

Unit III: Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties

The significance of classification along with a brief history of the development of the periodic table is discussed. General trends in periodicity are demonstrated with the help of examples.

Unit IV: Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure

Various types of bonds and their formation is explained. The VSEPR theory is introduced for the first time along with the concept of hybridisation.

Unit V: States of Matter: Gases and Liquids

Gas laws and their importance is explained. These laws include Boyle’s law, Charles law, Gay Lussac’s law, and Avogadro’s law. Students are made to solve questions on basic problems involving these laws and the ideal gas equation.

Unit VI: Chemical Thermodynamics

Here again, the 3 laws of thermodynamics are discussed. Mathematical problems are frequently set from this unit. Moreover, the concept of entropy forms an important part of many questions.

Unit VII: Equilibrium

Le Chatelier’s principle and ionic equilibrium is discussed with the degree of ionization. An elementary idea of Henderson’s equation and the common ion effect is also required to score good marks.

Unit VIII: Redox Reaction

The basics of oxidation and reduction are explained in great detail. Students are also expected to know the steps involved in balancing redox reactions.

Unit IX: Hydrogen

The position of hydrogen in the periodic table and its characteristic properties are discussed in the chapter.

Unit X: s -Block Elements (Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals)

Diagonal relationships between elements are demonstrated using examples. The reactions of sodium are particularly important. The formation and the properties of some important compounds have also been discussed at length.

Unit XI: Some p -Block Elements

A general introduction to p – block elements is provided along with the reason behind the variation in their oxidation states. Although P block involves many groups, only groups 13 and 14 are dealt with in class 11.

Unit XII: Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Technique

IUPAC nomenclature of organic compounds is taught. Electronic displacements in a covalent bond involve the inductive effect, electromeric effect, resonance and hyperconjugation, from which questions are commonly set in exams.

Unit XIII: Hydrocarbons

The classification of hydrocarbons is done here. They are divided into alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and some benzylic compounds.

Unit XIV: Environmental Chemistry

Green chemistry as an alternative tool for reducing pollution is discussed along with some strategies for control of environmental pollution.

Importance Of NCERT Chemistry Solutions

    • Provides clarity regarding the kind of questions asked in exams: With such a vast syllabus to cover, it becomes essential for students to be able to categorize chapters into sections of what is important and what is not. In any examination, some typical questions are asked. These NCERT Chemistry solutions help students identify the parts of the chapter that need to be studied thoroughly in order to score well in exams.
  • Teaches you how to write answers: Even after being well-acquainted with the important parts of the syllabus, students still miss out on scoring good marks due to their inability to frame and write proper answers in the exam. NCERT Solutions teach you how to write answers concisely, all while mentioning relevant points and drawing necessary diagrams. This is extremely beneficial for students and helps them immensely in the long run.
  • Equips you with the necessary skills to manage time: More often than not, students face difficulty in being able to complete solving their questions papers on time. The exercises given at the back of each NCERT chapter are divided into sections. You are given a number of MCQs, short, and long questions to answer. If you set a stipulated time limit and aim to answer all the questions given in that time frame, you are bound to get better at managing time. This practice will come in handy when you are appearing for any exam as effective time management is a skill that students need to learn to master in order to succeed.
