How to get into NITs after JEE

Must read

Every student in India dreams of getting admission to either IIT or NIT. After IIT, NIT is considered as one of the most reputed institutions for technology for engineering students. If you are also dreaming of NIT but thinking about how to enter there then here is the detailed information on how to get into NIT after JEE. After appearing for JEE mains students can get admission in NITs depending on their rank and eligibility.

Before knowing how to get admission into NIT first let us know brief info of NITs.

About NITs

It is an abbreviation of the National institute of technologies, famous nationwide for engineering and other courses. Currently, there are 31 NITs all around the nation. These are the autonomous technical universities and come under the jurisdiction of ME (ministry of education), Government of India, and have been governed by NIT under the Science Education and Research Act, 2007. The ranking of NITs is decided by NIRF every year depending on various factors. There are overall 23000 + seats available for UG programs and 13000+ seats in PG programs.

Steps to get into NITs after JEE Main

The admission in UG programs for engineering in NIT can be taken after clearing JEE main decent AIR. Below are the producers to get admission in an NIT after clearing JEE main.

  • For taking admission to NIT every student should first check the eligibility criteria demanded by and NITs.
  • If the students satisfy all the eligibility criteria to get admission into NIT then they have to register themselves for JEE main.
  • After registration, the students must have to give the JEE main exam to receive a decent rank.
  • After clearing JEE main the students have to register themselves for JoSAA counselling.
  • After josaa counselling, they have to book their seats in the desired NIT depending on the rank to get admission.

Now let's discuss all these steps in detail to get admission to the desired NIT through the JEE Main scorecard.

  • Checking the Eligibility Criteria of NITs

Before taking admission in NITs, candidates must have to check all the eligibility criteria specified by authorities of NIT, and before that first check the eligibility criteria to appear for JEE main. Below are the general eligibility criteria needed to appear in JEE main and hence in NIT.

  • Students should have passed the 10+2 exam with decent marks or a qualifying exam just two years before admission.
  • The appearing candidates in 10 + 2 are also eligible to apply for the exam.
  • A minimum of aggregate 75% marks is required for general category candidates and that of 65% for SC/ST/ PWD candidates.
  • Registration for JEE main

After checking the eligibility the second step to get admission is registering for the JEE main exam. To do so, candidates have to fill up the application form of JEE main on its releasing time before the final date. The registration procedure will be fully in online mode.

The application for JEE main is taken twice a year. Candidates can take part in both rounds if they want to do so to clear the exam or to improve their marks than last time. Before doing the final submission candidates must ensure that all the information filled by them such as Name, Address, Email, Phone no., etc. should be 100% correct. The authorities will not take any responsibility for the details filled in by the candidates.

  • Clear the JEE Main with a decent rank

After successful registration,  candidates have to prepare thoroughly for the exam.  They have to write the exam on the scheduled time and scheduled day.  Only after clearing JEE Main candidates will get an opportunity to enter into NITs.  JEE Main is considered one of the toughest entrance exams in India among students.

It is the direct ticket to enter India’s most popular institutions such as NITs and IITs (after clearing JEE Advanced) in their Bachelor programs from different desired branches. The exam will be taken online. For this exam, candidates must have a good command of subjects like PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). Notes from different reputed institutes such as JEE Main Physics Notes, Chemistry Notes, Mathematics Notes can help you in clearing the exam with a decent rank.

  • Registration for JoSAA Counselling

After clearing the JEE main, Joint Seat Allocation Authority commonly known as  JoSAA conducts a counselling process for all the eligible candidates to get admission in NITs as well as IITs.  every candidate must have to take part in the counselling process.  Without taking part in the counselling process no one will get a chance for admission in their desired institutions for a Bachelor engineering degree.  It is compulsory to take part in the counselling process conducted by JoSAA.

After registering for the JoSAA counselling, candidates have to lock their seats in the different NITs to get admission.  The chance for JoSAA counselling registration will be given to the candidate depending on their rank.
